Georgian Society for the Protection and Safety of Animals – GSPSA started a petition to the President of Georgia Mr. Giorgi Margvelashvili via social networks requesting ratification of Declaration of Animal Rights, European Convention for the Protection of Pet Animals and adoption and tightening of animal protection legislation in Georgia. The petition was started on October 4 – World Animal Day (http://www.worldanimalday.org.uk).
The petition is started via CARE2 petition site. GSPSA writes:
“Mr. President, we, the NGO “Georgian Society for the Protection and Safety of Animals”, intellectuals in Georgia and other countries, for whom the interests and the values of the world’s civilized countries’ people are common, appeal to the Georgian government to set in motion animal defense mechanisms, that will undoubtedly have great significance in humane control of our ecosystem…
In several days after this appeal parliamentary elections will be conducted in Georgia. Unfortunately and surprisingly none of the political parties mentioned resolving animal welfare issues in the election campaign. It will be very disappointing if newly elected legislative body of the country will not adopt the needed laws regarding animal protection and population control for years to come. We want to think that some members of the future parliament will focus on this field…
Mr. President, Georgian and international intellectual society, millions of animal protection activists and animal lovers need your incentive in regulating this issues in legislative body of the state. We are aware of your kind and humane attitude towards animals…”
