Wednesday April 1st, 2020

On March 20, 2020, the "Georgian Society for the Protection and Safety of Animals (GSPSA) launched a charitable, emergency program "Help the Strays."

The program aims to help the stray animals grately affected of hard circumstences caused by Corona Virus COVID-19 crisis with food and global problems and to alleviate their difficult living conditions. The focus will be on regions of Georgia where homeless animals are particularly vulnerable and in need of immediate assistance.

Within the framework of the program, with the involvement of GSPSA members and volunteers, the purchase of food for stray animals living in the territory of Zugdidi Municipality are daily provided with food and neccesary medications.

The dried food of a dog and a cat was given to the volunteers by the representative of GSPSA to feed the stray animals living in the villages and suburbs of Zugdidi.

With the help of GSPSA's "Help the Strays" program, about one tonne of food was purchased in the first phase, which is set for one month (April 20) for an average of 100 animals per day.

The global problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic crisis are likely to go away in a few months. GSPSA hopes for kind people and believes that together we can make life easier for stray animals in need and prevent them from starving to death.

GSPSA's "Help the Strays" program provides:

✔️ Collection of targeted donations to the organization’s account – https://gspsa.org.ge/donate/
✔️ Identify and select areas (locations) where emergency help is needed
✔️ Appoint a responsible person in the selected region
✔️ Find volunteers in the selected region
✔️ Find storage space for food
✔️ Purchase food and transfer it to the destination
✔️ Supply food for stray animals by the volunteer-led staff

It should be noted that GSPSA's goal in launching the "Help the Homeless" campaign was not only to help homeless animals in Zugdidi, but since all of this depends on both financial and human resources, the organization has chosen to provide a daily allowance for a certain number of animals, given the amount of money donated to a particular city.

There are also about 100 stray dogs and cats under the auspices of GSPSA in Tbilisi, which are cared for on a daily basis.

Anyone can participate in this program as much as possible in the form of financial or material assistance.
