GSPSA and Zoological Center signed memorandum
The Chairman of GSPSA Teimuraz Tsikoridze and founder of Zoological Center (bear shelter) Soso Jikurashvili signed a memorandum of cooperation on animal protection, safety and welfare in bear shelter of Sabaduri forest, Tskhvaritchamia, Mtksheta on August 5, 2018.
The main aim of the memorandum is partnering in safeguarding brown bear included in Georgian Red List.
Soso Jikurashvili, actor by profession, established brown bear shelter – non-for-profit organization Zoological Center – with the aim to resolve the problem of illegally captured brown bears back in 2010. The permit for the shelter was issued by the ministry of the protection of the environment and natural resources. 12 brown bears live in the shelter. These bears had been held captive in heinous conditions and tiny cages before arriving at the shelter.
